Steps to Jump Start a Car
Position Both Cars
- To make sure the automobile with the dead battery does not come into contact with the operating vehicle, usually known as the donor, park it close by.
- Turn off both the cars and make sure all the lights, accessories and engine are also off.
Open Hoods
Just simple open the hoods of both car and locate the batteries; you can remove the battery covers, if necessary.
Identify Terminals
You must locate both batteries’ positive and negative connections. The negative terminal is identified by a black cover or color, and the positive terminal is identified by a red cover or color.
Connect Jumper cables
- For the red jumper, take the cable and connect the positive terminal of the dead battery to one end and the good battery to the other.
- To lower the possibility of sparks, you must connect one end of the black jumper cable to the grounded metal portion of the dead automobile and the other end to the negative terminal of the good battery.
Start Both Vehicle One-By-One
- First, you need to start the donor vehicle. Just turn on the working vehicle’s engine and let it run for a short while. The dead battery will be charged as a result.
- Wait for few minutes then start the dead batter car and if it doesn’t start then you need to wait for few more minutes before you try again.
Disconnect Cables

- Next, take the black wire out of the good battery’s negative terminal.
- Next, take the red cable out of the good battery’s positive terminal.
- Finally, take the red cable out of the dead battery’s positive terminal.
Let Your Car Run
Once your car is started just keep your car in motion for about 20 minutes at least which will allow the alternator to recharge the battery.
